Albemarle County Divorce Records
The Albemarle Circuit Court presides over divorce proceedings. Associated records, maintained by the Circuit Clerk's Office, are presumed public, although access is restricted to case parties and their immediate family members for the first 25 years after the divorce has been finalized. A divorce record (mainly the divorce decree) is a legal document that proves that a marriage has officially ended and can be used for legal name changes, visa and passport applications, enforcing child support or custody, remarriage verification, and settling financial or property disputes.
